ECKLEY Steve

Steve Eckley is special counsel at Causey & Ye Law. He received his Juris Doctorate from Harvard University in 1981. Before attending Harvard, Steve earned his B.A. with summa cum laude honors from Drake University in 1977.

With 35 years of experience as a trial attorney, Steve has successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of cases involving business disputes, property damage, and personal injury. He may be the only Iowa attorney who has had juries in two separate civil cases return favorable verdicts on the same day. His remarkable courtroom record has been repeatedly recognized by his fellow attorneys. His ability to connect with people has taken him to the highest levels of leadership in Iowa’s legal community.

Achievements and Highlights:

• Recently, Steve won a $12.4 million jury verdict for the owners of an apartment complex plagued by multiple construction defects and successfully defended it on appeal.
• His largest case to date involved two related lawsuits for $400 million in property damage, four deaths, and many injuries resulting from the catastrophic explosion of an ammonium nitrate facility.
• Steve was elected president of both the 2,000-member Polk County Bar Association and the 8,000-member Iowa State Bar Association.
