BYRD Shonté

Shonté earned her law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law in May 2020. Throughout law school, she worked as a federal grant project coordinator for the St. Louis County Police Department. Before attending law school, she obtained her Master’s degree in Social Work - Administration and Advocacy from the University of Kansas and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Sociology from Northwest Missouri State University. Shonté is a certified notary and is also licensed to practice law in the state of Missouri.

Shonté began her legal career in 2017 as a legal assistant at a law firm in St. Louis. After law school, she served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney at the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Before joining the St. Charles divorce and family law attorneys at Stange Law Firm, Shonté spent the last two years working for the St. Louis County Counselor’s Office. As an Assistant County Counselor, she prosecuted violations related to residential and commercial property maintenance, addressing nuisance issues through community engagement, collaboration with various government departments, and legal action. Additionally, Shonté provided legal guidance to county officials on property compliance matters, contributed to compliance process research and analysis with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and prepared annual reports on outcomes based on qualitative and quantitative data. She also advised county departments to ensure adherence to established laws, including handling Sunshine Law requests, and represented St. Louis County in administrative and civil litigation matters. Outside of her legal work, Shonté has a background in social work and community engagement and is a proud volunteer and affiliate of various organizations.
