Bastiaan provides comprehensive advice to organizations across various sectors on data protection (privacy) and digital market regulation. He has extensive experience in IT-related transactions, including large-scale software licensing, development, and implementation projects. He advises clients and providers on different types of outsourcing projects (BPO and ITO) and provides guidance on electronic communications regulation.
His wide-ranging expertise includes drafting and negotiating electronic communications agreements, advising clients on e-commerce projects (B2B, B2C, and C2C) and internet projects, and preparing and negotiating long-term strategic technology agreements, including agreements related to mergers and acquisitions.
Bastiaan also has solid experience in cybersecurity, cybercrime, and ICT litigation. He regularly advises on projects involving new technologies (including Artificial Intelligence) and innovative uses of data.
As an intellectual property expert, Bastiaan is well-equipped to handle complex IP issues that may arise in data and technology projects and transactions.

Bastiaan earned his Master of Laws from KU Leuven in 1994 (magna cum laude). He is a member of the Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF) and obtained an LL.M. from the University of Chicago Law School (1996). He holds additional certifications from Vlerick Business School (negotiation), the London School of Economics (data: law, policy, and regulation), and the University of Oxford (Artificial Intelligence program).
