Stefaan Raes has extensive and long-standing experience in European and national competition law, both as a judge and as the President of the Belgian Competition Authority. As a judge, and before that as a lawyer, he also has extensive and long-standing experience in litigation, not only in competition law but also in other areas of economic law, such as sectoral regulation, market practices, intellectual property rights, and civil liability cases.Stefaan was a lawyer at the Brussels Bar (1981–1994), a judge at the Brussels Court of First Instance (1994–1998), a judge at the Brussels Court of Appeal (1998–2004), President of the Competition Council (the Belgian Competition Authority, 2004–2013), and later a judge again at the Brussels Court of Appeal (2013–2015). At the Court, he chaired the chamber responsible for competition law cases.Stefaan is the author of numerous publications in the fields of civil procedure and economic law. He was active in research and teaching in civil procedure at the Faculty of Law of KU Leuven (1986–1994). He holds a law degree from KU Leuven (1980) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Chicago Law School (1981).Stefaan joined Liedekerke as a partner in April 2015.
