Presentation

Alastair Dobbie is a consultant solicitor who studied Jurisprudence at Oxford (law), where he was awarded an exhibition for a first-class result in Moderations, and got a good grounding at one of the best colleges for law, Brasenose, which boasts remarkably two sitting Supreme Court Judges as alumni.

He is a language specialist with a varied client base across the world and has experience as a professional translator and interpreter for commercial and legal documents.

He has particular experience of medium size investor group actions, often acting for a large number of clients in a single investor group.

He is amiable and often instructed by HNWIs and privately-owned companies who prefer more personal contact and approach.

Alastair is professionally active worldwide, particularly in both the UK and Europe, and is based in Innsbruck, so he is available in the EU for client visits on short notice.

Alastair has a maths and finance background as a student (a prize-winning mathematician at A-level for the top mark in the country in Pure Maths 4), has investment banking experience and is CREFC-Europe-certified in commercial real estate financing.

Alastair gained negotiation and mediation experience through working with the Harvard Negotiation Insight Initiative, Vantage Partners (where he trained managers at some of the world’s largest companies) and on the negotiation course for lawyers at the Harvard Negotiation Project, where he was a guest auditor.

Alastair currently represents several hundred leasehold investors in various insolvency or alleged UCIS situations. (A UCIS is an Unregulated Collective Investment Scheme, in breach of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.)

He undertakes bespoke probate, family and commercial and residential property negotiation and mediation work for clients when requested personally. In 2016 he helped resolve one of the longest-running child custody disputes, advising and drafting statements for a father whose children had been taken from him for the majority of their childhoods; the case settled in his favour at Court after the President of the London family division put an order preventing further litigation in place, without permission of the Court.
