Nicholas Buhite completed both his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Toronto. In 2019, he earned a Bachelor of Arts with a major in History and International Relations, followed by a Juris Doctor (JD) in 2022. After his first year of law school, Nicholas co-wrote a report on police incidents related to COVID-19 at the beginning of the pandemic. After his second year, he worked at a law firm specializing in criminal law. He completed his articles at Caramanna Friedberg LLP and joined the firm as an associate lawyer after his call to the bar in June 2023.
During his legal studies, Nicholas regularly attended events hosted by the Criminal Lawyers Association and volunteered with Innocence Canada, Pro Bono Students Canada, and the David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights. He also worked for a year in the criminal and academic offences division of Downtown Legal Services, assisting low-income individuals seeking help with criminal matters and university students facing academic misconduct allegations. During law school, he served as an associate editor for the University of Toronto Law Review and contributed to the monthly publication of the University of Toronto Criminal Law Association, Crimes, Courts, and Commentary.
Nicholas has spent most of his life aspiring to become a criminal defense lawyer. He first became interested in criminal law after volunteering for several years in a youth diversion program in high school, and he attended law school with the sole intention of practicing criminal law. He has extensive experience in oral advocacy, having participated in trial and appellate moot court competitions as a competitor, team leader, and coach from high school through to his call to the bar. When his schedule permits, Nicholas continues to serve as a judge for the University of Toronto Law School’s student moot trials.
Nicholas is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Criminal Lawyers Association, and the Toronto Lawyers Association.
