Presentation

Mrs. Keesha C. Carty nee Webster is a native of Anguilla; an attorney at law by profession; a notary public and a court connected mediator and trained family law mediator.

From the tender age of 6 years old, she declared to her parents that she would be a lawyer when she grew up. She remained focused, resolute and consistently excelled from that age to her graduation from 6th form of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS). She was a member, Vice President and President of the Debating Society, a Debater and part of the Debating Winning Team, Host of a radio youth program aired on Radio Anguilla called “Youth 2 U”, founder and President of the Law Society, Deputy Head Girl, Head Girl, Valedictorian 1995 and Island Scholar 1997. She worked for a year as a Secondary School teacher in the areas of English Language, English Literature, History, Social Studies and Spanish.

In 1998, Mrs Carty attended the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus. During her tenure there she was awarded for Student with Best Level 1 Grades, Student with Best Results in Criminal Law, Student with Best Results in Constitutional Law and Student with Best Results in Insurance Law. She served on the executive of the Law Society (UWI). In 2001 she earned her Bachelor of Laws Degree with honours. In 2003 she earned her Legal Education Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School, Mona Campus, UWI Jamaica. During that two year study, she earned awards for Student with Best Results in Remedies, Student with Best Results in Conveyancing and Registration of Title and Most Outstanding Second Year Results. She was a member of the Mooting Committee and the Academic Committee.

On 3rd October 2003, she obtained her Certificate of Enrolment in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Anguilla Circuit. She is also called to the Bar of St Christopher and Nevis in the Eastern Caribbean.

Mrs Carty has worked in Private Practice for her entire legal career, save for engagements of her by the Crown to prosecute certain matters. She was grateful to have been groomed by legal stalwarts in Anguilla such as Mrs Josephine Gumbs Connor, Mr Keithley F.T. Lake and Mr Thomas W.R. Astaphan QC.

In March 2006, Mrs Carty ventured out on her own and established the Law Firm of K.C.W et al, which symbolizes “Keesha Corretta Webster and Others”. She has invested her time and efforts from then to present into making a name for herself in the community as a distinguished, passionate and firm attorney and mediator. Her reputation now precedes her and she has earned accolades of being involved in several acquisitions, developments and tourist projects on the island. She is also a household name when it comes to litigation and advocacy and is known for her preparedness, forthrightness and frankness to the Court and her clients.

Mrs Carty has served as Second Nominated Member and Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly of Anguilla (2005 – 2010). She has organized, presented at and participated in Commonwealth Parliamentary Conferences. She has lectured CAPE Law for ALHCS 6th Form; Police Promotional Examinations for the Royal Anguilla Police Force, Law of Human Resource and Practitioners for UWI Open Campus; and Hospitality Law for the Anguilla Community. Mrs. Carty has knowledge and experience in telecommunications laws and regulations and liberalization of telecommunications, which were and continue to be assets to her service as Chairperson of the Public Utilities Commission. She has served as Chairperson of both Labour and Educational Tribunals in Anguilla. She is a past member of the Board of Governors of ALHCS; a current member of the Anguilla Bar Association and a past vice president of said Association.

Mrs Carty is a proud Christian, wife, mother, daughter and sibling. She is community minded and passionate about the overall development of our youths, particularly our young men; and believes that family and community matter. She was a member of the Steering Committee of the National Youth Council of Anguilla from 2008 – 2010 and continues to invest of her time and finances in various projects to assist youths, the community and others.

When she is not working, Mrs Carty is engulfed with her husband, children and extended family. She is guided by a simple motto, which was and remains the motto of the Firm - Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”.

She is humbled and grateful for the support and prayers of family, friends and colleagues and looks forward to a future of continued service to clients, community and the Court.
