Presentation
John Borders has spent the past twenty years providing and overseeing clinical care for families and children. He has worked extensively with high-conflict parents, families undergoing divorce, runaway youth, and traumatized, abused, and neglected children in a wide variety of mental health settings, including public and private agencies, hospitals, residential facilities, and schools.
John's practice focuses on co-parenting relationships with highly conflictual parents, parent-child relationship issues, and family dynamics. Previously, John served as Clinical Director of Kids In The Middle, where he provided and supervised divorce-related services for over 300 families and 450 children annually, as well as trauma-related treatment for more than 650 children in 23 elementary schools in St. Louis City. At the Child Center, an intensive diagnostic and treatment facility, he worked with children and families with severe relational issues. At Youth Emergency Service, John reunited runaway youth with their families; at DePaul Health Center, he treated children with acute behavioral disorders and their families in both inpatient and outpatient settings; and at the St. Louis Mental Health Center, a division of the Missouri Department of Mental Health, he worked with families to prevent the removal of children from their homes.
John Borders earned his AB from Princeton University. He attended the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University, where he received an Eleanor Roosevelt Fellowship and earned an MSW with a concentration in family studies. He later studied at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute, completing the Advanced Psychotherapy Program. He is also certified in EMDR Levels I & II by the EMDR Institute and has training in mediation, parenting coordination, and interdisciplinary collaborative divorce. He is a court-approved mediator and parenting coordinator. Additionally, he is a collaborative family law coach and child specialist and a licensed clinical social worker.
